Mr. M called our office on behalf of an activist group to which he belonged. He complained that a non-profit organization had threatened to prevent his group from taking part in an event. The non-profit was not a part of the City of Toronto administration, but did receive grants from the City.
Mr. R noticed a sinkhole at the edge of the road in front of his place of work. The hole was about 30 cm across and a substantial 65 cm deep. He called 311 on July 7, 2010 and was told that someone would inspect the site within 24 hours. On July 22, the hole was still there and so Mr. R called 311 again.
Mr. H, a university student and TCHC tenant, asked for a retroactive deduction from his rent and a rent recalculation. He had recently learned he was entitled to claim a deduction from his income for child support when declaring his income to TCHC.
Mr. E called our office after his request for a refund was denied by Revenue Services. Since moving to his home in 1998, Mr. E had been paying his water bill regularly. In 2004, he received a request from Revenue Services to read his meter because they said he had been paying estimates for the past five years.
Ms. H lives in a TCHC rent-geared-to-income unit. She received a letter from TCHC, notifying her that her rent would be doubling and that the increase was to take effect June 1, 2010.
Mr. L called our office after having issues getting in contact with Toronto Water regarding water bills for his restaurant. Over several months, Mr. L received multiple estimates for water bills for his restaurant, which he thought were too high.
Ms. B paid her property tax bill online, but was told it had not been paid. Ms. B contacted the City, stating she had made her payment in May 2010 and she sent several faxes of her receipts to Revenue Services to prove it.
Ms. K should have been getting a discount for using the smallest black garbage bin, but she wasn’t. She called Solid Waste Management Services, who told her that she did not have a bin at all.
Ms. X moved to a new apartment in her TCHC building when her ceiling collapsed in March 2009. After the move, she asked her building superintendent to move her name on the intercom to reflect the apartment change. Despite her requests, the TCHC superintendent did not update the intercom.
